The Pendulum Duo were one of the featured ensembles and clinicians at the Maryland/Delaware PAS Day of Percussion on March 22, 2009. In addition to presenting a duo concert/clinic discussing ensemble techniques, Krygier and Powell each offered individual clinics.
Powell presented a clinic highlighting two mallet technique and exercises which included a performance of G.H. Green’s Charleston Capers. The marimba “backup band” featured Joe Krygier, Patrick Roulet, Mike Ranelli (Krygier & Powell’s fellow Eastman classmate and Maryland/Delaware PAS chapter treasurer) and Ranelli’s student, Chris Sies.
Krygier’s workshop focused on hand percussion with an emphasis on frame drums. Students were invited to participate in some group frame drumming and the duo wrapped up this session with a performance of John Bergamo’s Piru Bole.
The concert portion of the afternoon duo session included: 42nd Street Rondo by Wayne Seigel, Alegria by Bill Brennan, Wrongo Dongo by Joe Krygier and carpe diem by Susan Powell.
