Susan Powell, Artistic Director Joseph Krygier, Drum Instructor Kathy Jones, Fife Instructor Initiated in 2005, the OSU Fifes & Drums is an ensemble that brings alive the early traditions of rudimental drumming and American music. Since its inception, Robin Engelman (Nexus) has helped to shape the group, coming to Ohio State both in 2005 and 2006 to share his wealth of knowledge on the subject of military music and its performance traditions. The OSU Fifes & Drums were featured in 2007 with the OSU Marching Band for a home football game halftime show. Additionally, this same show featuring the Fifes & Drums was repeated at the University of Michigan. The Fifes & Drums perform on authentic rope tension snare drums, bass drums and fifes made by the Cooperman company, and appear in full traditional replica uniforms created by Louella Powell (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and Julia Powell (Milwaukee Rep).
